I am here to save you again! I should charge you for how much I come to your aid.
We had an exciting event last week Saturday at Nest Hub titled Design In Retrospect (the Good, the Bad, and the Inbetween).
The highlight of the day, apart from connecting with community members and meeting new people, is the sessions that Victor Fatanmi and Akachi Ogbonna took. I noted and took away essential points on Akachi’s design journey and Victor’s tips on Mastering ourselves and time.
Akachi took us on a very insightful session on the journey of design, how processes and tools have evolved, and how she adapted to these changes as a designer. She spoke about her designs in the early stages, how she promised to work in a company for just three months and ended up spending three years. Everyone laughed when she told us how she missed a one-time opportunity to work at Flutterwave because she was discouraged from applying.
Trends come and go; stay with the basics; the more things change, the more things remain the same- Akachi Ogbonna.
One lesson I learned from Akachi’s session was how Design has transcended through time; she mentioned that when she started designing, designers weren’t bothered about how usable their designs were for users. They simply designed and made their designs flashy, but Design has evolved so much that users are at the center stage of Design. I learned how important it is to develop and improve at whatever we do.
Victor Fatanmi spoke so much about Mastering ourselves and our time. It is through mastering ourselves that we become an institution and a brand. He advised us to use AI as our assistant and maximise it while ensuring we develop a sense of love for design so we can do excellent work. Victor showed us the importance of daily routines because they accumulate into life-changing habits.
I leave you with this quote from Victor.
The day is the basic SI unit of our lives, maximise it - Victor Fatanmi.
